TOO MUCH FUN IN THE SUN?

Spring has sprung and we are finally getting some warm weather. Time to get out in the yard or participate in some fun outdoor activities. But you might want to take some precautions to make sure you don’t get too much sun. Here are some of the ways to protect yourself:

  • Avoid being exposed during the peak exposure time (11am - 2pm).

  • Wear sunscreen.

  • Stay hydrated with water, not other beverages.

  • Take Vitamin C preventatively.

  • Taking the nutrient PABA (par-Aminobenzoic Acid) twice a day can prevent sunburn.

Try to avoid getting burned. A single bad sunburn will put us at higher risk for skin cancer than a total lifetime long term exposure. If you do over do it, try to cool the skin as quickly as possible, with cool lavender or oatmeal baths. Apply good healing treatments such as aloe vera gel, comfrey compresses, or topical homeopathic remedies. Try to avoid the topical anesthetics, as they can actually slow the healing process by restricting blood flow to the damaged area. There are also several nutrients that you should take for a couple of weeks following a burn including Vitamin C with bioflavonoids, Beta-carotene, Selenium, Zinc, and Omega 3 Fatty Acids.

Do you have any special treatments or preventatives for sunburn? I'd love to hear about it!
